Personal
Matt Emmons brought home the gold from the 2004 Athens Olympic Games in Men's 50m Rifle Prone, but narrowly missed the mark in both Men's 50m Rifle Three Position and Men's 10m Air Rifle. In 2008, Emmons won his second Olympic medal, taking the silver in Men's 50m Rifle Prone. He also finished in fourth place, just out of medal contention, in Men's 50m Rifle Three Position. He also won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games in Men's Three-Position Rifle.

Matt first began to shoot competitively in high school after Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) firearms instructor Paul Adamowski invited him to give the sport a try. He quickly became passionate about shooting and learned that it would be an excellent way to earn a scholarship for college.  Though he tried his hand all three Olympic disciplines, it was rifle that kept his attention. In 1997, after a little over a year of shooting, one of Matt’s friends talked Matt's father into allowing him to compete in an international shooting event. It was there that he was able to rise above the field and catch the eye of USA Shooting by winning both the Men's 50m Rifle Prone and Men's 50m Rifle Three Position events.

Today, Matt is an Olympic champion focused on living his life to the fullest. When he has time to visit Alaska, Matt enjoys camping, hiking, fishing and cross country skiing.  Matt married Katerina (Katy) Kurkova in Plzen, Czech Republic on June 30, 2007. Katy and Matt first met at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Katy is a 2008 Olympic gold and silver medalist, a 2004 Olympic bronze medalist and a 2002 World Championship gold medalist. Matt and Katy welcomed their first child, Julie (pronounced "Yulia" in Czech) Jamie Emmons on April 2, 2009.  This rifleman is not just about shooting around the range.  Matt once pitched a perfect game for his high school baseball team in Pemberton, N.J.  Matt also holds a degree in Management and Finance from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
