ISSF World Cup Chile: Men's Trap Results

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 8, 2011)

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Chile finished today with Men’s Trap. USA Shooting Team member and Olympic Training Center Resident Athlete Collin Wietfeldt (Hemlock, Mich.) finished in eleventh place with 120 targets. Wietfeldt (pictured) started out straight through the first three rounds, but had difficulty with the final two rounds. He missed the opportunity to shoot in the finals by one target. National Coach Bret Erickson said regarding 19-year-old Wietfeldt’s performance, “Collin showed he can compete at this level and that he is still gaining experience. He will be in that position again soon and will be better prepared for it.” American teammates Lance Bade (Vancouver, Wash.) finished in 21st place with 118 targets and Brian Burrows (Fallbrook, Calif.) finished in 53rd place with 112 targets.

Turkey’s Oguzhan Tuzun took the lead headed into the finals and managed to stay ahead of the pack for the gold medal and quota. The silver and bronze medals, however, were not as clear cut. Russia’s Pavel Gurkin entered a shoot-off with three other shooters for the two medals. Gurkin emerged victorious for the silver after nine targets. Spain’s Jesus Serrano won the bronze medal after hitting eight targets. The USA Shooting Team athletes have two weeks off before World Cup competition begins again. The Team will be in Australia, from March 21 to 30 for the combined (rifle, pistol and shotgun) ISSF World Cup.
