NJOSC: Holsopple Tops Another Podium

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 3, 2011)

On April 3, Emily Holsopple (Wilcox, Pa.) proved that she is a multi-faceted rifle shooter as she claimed the title of National Junior Olympic Champion in Women’s 50m Rifle Three Position. Just days after conquering the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event, Holsopple entered the final two points ahead of the competition (1170 points) and sealed the deal with a 98.5 point final. She finished with 1268.5 total points. Sarah Scherer (Fort Worth, Texas) scored a strong final of 99.7 points for a total of 1267.7 points. Scherer edged out Libby Tallberg (Stratford, Conn.) by just eight-tenths of a point. Tallberg, a J2 competitor, shot an outstanding 1167 points in qualification and the highest final of 99.9 points for a total of 1266.9 points.

In the J2 category, the gold medal was awarded to Megan Lee of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. Lee shot 1130 points. The silver medalist was Ashley Ahrens (Seneca, Pa.) with 1124 points. Denise Martin (Chewelah, Wash.) finished with the bronze medal and 1122 points.

Mackenzie Martin (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the J3 category with 1126 points. The silver medalist was Hanna Carr (Versailles, Ky.) with 1112 points. Carmen Fry (Forest Lake, Minn.) brought home the bronze medal with 1094 points. Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding performances and sportsmanship.
