IPC Shooting World Cup Alicante Preview

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 4, 2011)

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Cup will be held May 4 to 8 in Alicante, Spain. With over 240 athletes from 46 federations, this event is the largest ever IPC Shooting World Cup. Athletes will compete in 12 different IPC events—the same events that will be contested in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. Much like able-bodied competition, the Paralympic Team needs to win quotas in order to compete in London. Some slots are allotted based on the total number of minimum qualifying scores a country has, but it’s often a gamble. Quota places are in high demand and will make a gold medal even sweeter.

The USA Shooting Team will be represented by Sergeant Kisha Makerney (Fort Townson, Okla.) in R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone and R6 Mixed 50m Rifle Prone, Eric Hollen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in P1 Men’s 10m Air Pistol and P4 Mixed 50m Free Pistol, Mike Dickey (Trafford, Ala.) in R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone and R6 Mixed 50m Rifle Prone and Sergeant First Class Josh Olson (Spokane, Wash., pictured above) in R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone and R6 Mixed 50m Rifle Prone. Follow your team and watch LIVE results at the Sius Ascor Results page.
