USAS Nationals: Mowrer and Uptagrafft Champions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 8, 2011)

In the final day of the 2011 USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle and Pistol, Nick Mowrer (Butte, Mont.), Sergeant First Class Daryl Szarenski (Seale, Ala.) and Jason Turner (Rochester, N.Y.) made the National Pistol Team for Men's 50m Free Pistol. Mowrer, a Resident Athlete at the Olympic Training Center and the new National Champion, fired 1113 match points with a second day score and new personal best of 562 points. He finished with a strong final of 97.1 points for a total of 1210.1 points and the gold medal. Szarenski shot 1106 match points and 93.8 points in the final for a total of 1199.8 total points for the silver medal. The bronze medalist was Jason Turner with 1198.6 total points (1106+92.6). Specialist Greg Markowski (Columbus, Ga.) fired 1103 points and 93.4 points in the final for a total of 1196.4 points. Richard Gray (Fredericksburg, Va.) finished in fifth place with 1091 points and the highest final of 99.3 points for a total of 1190.3 points. Intaek Seo (Crystal Lake, Ill.) shot 1094 points and 95.3 points in the final for a total of 1189.3 points. Brian Beaman (Selby, S.D.) finished with 1096 points and 93.1 points for a total of 1189.1 points in the final and seventh place. Resident Athlete Will Brown (Twin Falls, Idaho) fired 1088 match points and an even 90 points in the final for eighth place.

Petty Officer First Class Sandra Uptagrafft (Los Angeles, Calif.) fired 1148 match points in Women’s 25m Sport Pistol. Just one point ahead of Resident Athlete Teresa Meyer (Dearborn, Mich.), Uptagrafft stayed strong to shoot 198.7 points in the final for a total of 1346.7 points, the gold medal and National Title. Meyer also put up a solid final of 197.5 points for a total of 1344.5 points and the silver medal. The bronze medalist was Libby Callahan (Pawleys Island, South Carolina) with 1141 match points and 193 points in the final for a total of 1334 points. Nora Melamed (Novato, Calif.) finished in fourth place with 1136 match points and 195.9 points in the final for a total of 1331.9 points. Starlin Shi (Potomac, Md.) fired 1132 match points and 196.9 points in the final for a total of 1328.9 points and fourth place. Brenda Silva (Riverside, Calif.) shot 1128 match points and 181.5 points in the final for a total of 1309.5 total points and sixth place. Cara Krauss (Bristol, Vt.) finished in seventh place with 1100 match points and 189.5 points in the final for a total of 1289.5 total points. Taylor Gallegos (Prosper, Texas) fired 1060 match points and 192.7 points in the final for a total of 1252.7 points and eighth place.

In the Junior Men’s 50m Free Pistol competition, Brown shot 1088 match points and 91.9 points in the final for 1179.9 total points to claim the Junior National Title and gold medal. The silver medalist was Grant Adams (Manhattan, Kan.), who shot 1037 match points and 93.6 points in the final for a total of 1130.6 points. Alexander Chichkov (Temple Terrace, Fla.) shot 1026 match points and 93 points in the final for a total of 1119 points and the bronze medal.

In the Junior Women’s 25m Sport Pistol event, Shi excelled with 1132 match points and 196.8 points in the final for 1328.8 total points and the gold medal. The silver medalist was Gallegos with 1060 match points and 188.4 points in the final for 1248.4 total points. The bronze medalist was Erin Coscia (Zionsville, Ind.) 1043 match points and 173.5 points in the final for a total of 1216.5 points.
