2011 NJOSC: Wietfeldt & Heiden Champions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 1, 2011)

The 2011 USA Shooting (USAS) National Junior Olympic Championships for Shotgun crowned two new National Trap Champions today. Olympic Training Center (OTC) Resident Athlete Collin Wietfeldt (Hemlock, Mich.) took home top honors in Men’s Trap with a match score of 122 targets and 21 targets in the final. Matthew Gossett (Springville, Ala.) shot 119 match targets and a strong final of 24 targets to tie Wietfeldt at 143 targets. Wietfeldt beat Gossett after one target in the shoot-off. Gossett’s high final earned him silver medal honors. The bronze medalist was Austin Odom (Benton, Ark.) with 118 match targets and 20 targets in the final for a total of 138 targets.

Adding to the Michigan and Resident Athlete trend was Rachael Heiden (Clinton, Mich.). Heiden shot 120 match targets and 21 targets in the final for 141 total targets and the gold medal. The silver medalist was Janessa Beaman (Elbert, Colo.) with 112 match targets and 21 targets in the final for a total of 133 targets. The bronze medalist was Kayle Browning (Wooster, Ark.) with 112 match targets and 20 targets in the final for a total of 132 targets.

In the Men’s Trap J2 Category, Keenan Kremke (Burwell, Neb.) finished in first place with 112 match targets. The silver medalist was Jake Fritcher (Driftwood, Texas) with 112 targets. The bronze medalist was Tyler Lirio (Coolidge, Ga.) with 112 targets. In the J3 Category, Dustin McGowen (Greenwood, Ark.) shot 107 targets for the gold medal. The silver medalist was Grant Dorris (Lexington, Tenn.) with 107 targets. Woody Harris shot 103 targets for the bronze medal.

In the Women’s Trap J2 Category, Ashley Carroll (Solvang, Calif.) won the gold medal with 112 match targets. The silver medalist was Rebekah Lowen (Hillsboro, Mo.) with 104 targets. The bronze medalist was Rebekah Abel (Johnstown, Ohio) with 94 targets. The high J3 Category shooter was Chelsea Mathis (Huntingdon, Tenn.) with 93 targets.
