ISSF World Clay Target Final Day: Men's Skeet

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 13, 2011)

The final day of competition at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Clay Target Championships was replete with shoot-offs.  Men’s Skeet, a game of perfection, demanded a score of 123 out of 125 targets for even a chance to shoot in the final.  Ten shooters (who scored 123 targets) toed the line for only two spots in the final.  Emerging victorious in the shoot-off was Valerly Shomin of Russia and Fabio Ramella of Switzerland with 16 targets each.  Continuing with the shoot-off theme, Juan Jose Aramburu of Spain, Tore Brovold of Norway and Abdullah Alrashidi of Kuwait battled it out for the Men’s Skeet gold medal.  Tied at 149 total targets, Alrashidi was the first to fall after nine targets.  Brovold missed on his twelfth target and Aramburu became the new world champion.  It should be noted that Aramburu shot 150 out of 150 match targets for an equaled world record to finish with 149 +12 targets.  Brovold won the silver medal with 149 +11 targets and Alrashidi finished with the bronze and 149 +9 targets.

The USA Shooting Team’s Jon Michael McGrath (Tulsa, Okla.) finished in thirty-first place with 121 targets.  Teammates Vincent Hancock (Eatonton, Ga.) and Frank Thompson (Alliance, Neb.) both finished with 119 targets.  In Junior Men’s Skeet, Phillip Jungman (Caldwell, Texas) finished in thirteenth place with 119 targets.  Teammate Dustin Perry (Crockett, Texas) shot 118 targets and TJ Bayer (College Station, Texas) finished with 116 targets.  For complete results, please visit the ISSF website or the ISSF YouTube Channel for finals footage.
