The First Day of Double Trap & Skeet Action

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 30, 2011)

After near perfect conditions for Men's and Women's Trap at Hill Country Shooting Sports Center in Kerrville, Texas, gusty winds met the shooters for the opening rounds of Men's Double Trap and Men's and Women's Skeet.  The inclement weather resulted in difficult conditions and missed targets.  As the day progressed, the winds moderated and scores elevated.

At the end of the first match day, 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Glenn Eller (Katy, Texas) and Junior World Champion Billy Crawford (Johnstown, Ohio) were atop the leader board in Men's Double Trap with 134 targets out of a possible 150 targets.  They were followed by Jeff Holguin (Yorba Linda, Calif.) with 133 targets and Derek Haldeman (Sunbury, Ohio) with 132 targets.

In the Women's Skeet event junior shooters Morgan Craft (Hughesville, Pa.) and Brandy Drozd (Bryan, Texas) led the competition with 94 out of 100 targets, followed by Caitlin Connor (Winnfield, La.) with 91 clays broken.

In Men's Skeet, Olympic Training Center Resident Athletes Frank Thompson (Alliance, Neb.) and BJ Blanchard (Vidor, Texas) led an outstanding group at 98 targets through the difficult conditions with 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Vincent Hancock (Eatonton, Ga.) one target back. Jon Michael McGrath (Tulsa, Okla.) and Granger Dewitt (Bryan, Texas) are in pursuit of the leaders with 96 targets each.  For Double Trap scores, please navigate here.  For Skeet scores, please navigate here
