ELEY Athlete of the Month: Daryl Szarenski

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 5, 2012)

DarylUSA Shooting is proud to announce Sergeant First Class Daryl Szarenski (Seale, Ala.) as the ELEY Athlete of the Month.  Szarenski, a member of the U.S. Army’s World Class Athlete Program, stunned the crowd with a jaw-dropping 590 points in the first day of Men’s 10m Air Pistol at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Airgun.  He continued to soar ahead with 101.8 points in the final for 601.8 points after the first day.  Not only was this a terrific performance, but Szarenski’s 590 set a new national record in Men’s 10m Air Pistol—in both qualification and finals.  The former record, 589 points set by Reuben Hafter, has been in place since 1990.  “Daryl put up the best performance I’ve ever seen from a U.S. slow fire pistol athlete,” said National Pistol Coach Sergey Luzov.  Szarenski continued his pattern of excellence for a two day aggregate score of 1275.8 points and a commanding lead headed into the second half of U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Airgun in Camp Perry, Ohio, Feb. 23-26. Szarenski was honored by the nod, but refused to relish in the glory as he said, “It was really great to shoot well, but we are only halfway through and I need to push on and stay focused.”  Congratulations Sgt. 1st Class Szarenski!
