Gray and Caruso Deliver a Heated Battle in Women’s 10m Air Rifle

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 5, 2012)

WARmedalistsAt the final day of competition in the Rocky Mountain Rifle Championships, the gold and silver medalists in Women’s 10m Air Rifle were separated by one-tenth of a point.  Both Emily Caruso (Fairfield, Conn.) and Jamie Gray (Lebanon, Pa.) fired 399 out of 400 qualification points.  Coming down to the last shot, Gray gained an edge over Caruso as she fired 103.6 points in the final to Caruso’s 103.5 points.  Italy’s Petra Zublasing ascended her second podium of the match with a total of 501.2 points for the bronze medal.  Once again, the highest final of the event came from junior competitor Denise Martin (Chewelah, Wash.).  Martin entered the open final with 391 match points and astounded the crowd with a very impressive 105.7 points in the final to finish fourth overall. 

In Men’s 10m Air Rifle, the Italians overwhelmed the podium once again.  Marco de Nicolo shot 596 match points and 104.7 points in the final for 700.7 points for the gold medal. Matt Emmons (Browns Mills, N.J.) finished with the silver medal as he shot 595 match points and overtook Italy’s Nico Campriani in the final.  Campriani had a one-point advantage over Emmons in the final, but Emmons made up ground with 104.2 points.  Campriani shot 102.7 points in the final for 698.7 points and the bronze medal.  The high junior competitor was Tim Sherry (Denver, Colo.) with 682.5 total points.
