PARALYMPIC SHOOTING PREVIEW: Tammy Delano Set to Get Things Started for Team USA

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (September 7, 2016)

Tammy Delano (Rome, New York) saw Ginny Thrasher win the first gold medal of the Olympic Games in Women’s Air Rifle, and she’ll try to win the first medal of the Paralympic Games as well when she competes in R2 (Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1).

Delano is the lone U.S. competitor in the event. In November, Delano won bronze in the event at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Cup in Fort Benning, Georgia – her highest finish to date in R2. She has qualified for Finals in R2 two additional times this quad.

She’ll have tough competition as she faces World and European Champion Veronika Vadovicova of Serbia, who also happened to best Delano for the gold in Fort Benning as well. The reigning gold medalist in the event, Cuiping Zhang of China, only competed once in internationally in 2015, winning gold at the IPC World Cup in Croatia.

Her event will feature 18 other competitors and gets started at 7:30 am ET with Finals set for 9:30 am.  Results can be tracked here:  https://www.rio2016.com/en/paralympics/shooting-r2-women-s-10m-ar-standing-sh1-qual
