Anti in First for Prone Rifle, Callahan and Turner on Top for Pistol after Second Day of 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Shooting (Smallbore)

After the second day of competition at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Shooting (Smallbore) Mike Anti (Winterville, N.C.) jumped into the lead in Men’s Prone Rifle, while Libby Callahan (Columbia, S.C.) took over first place for Women’s Sport Pistol and Jason Turner (Rochester, N.Y.) remains on top for Men’s Free Pistol.

Three-time Olympian Anti took over the top spot in Men’s Prone Rifle after a two day total score of 1405.6. Eric Uptagrafft (Spokane, Wash.), a 1996 Olympian, jumped up from third place to second place today with a total score of 1402.6 points. Two-time Olympian Tamas fell from first place down to third place after a two day total of 1402.3. Jason Parker (Omaha, Neb.), a two-time Olympian and 2008 U.S. Olympic Team member in Men’s Air Rifle, remains in fourth place after the second day of competition with a total score of 1399.9 points. Michael McPhail (Darlington, Wis.), the 2008 Beijing World Cup bronze medalist, is in fifth place with 1398.6.


Tamas, Uptagrafft and Turner are in the Lead after Day 1 of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Shooting (Smallbore)

The first day of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Shooting (Smallbore) concluded today with Tom Tamas (Columbus, Ga.) in the lead for Men’s Prone Rifle, while Sandra Uptagrafft (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Jason Turner (Rochester, N.Y.) are on top in pistol.

In Men’s Prone Rifle, two-time Olympian Tamas, as well as Eric Uptagrafft (Spokane, Wash.), a 1996 Olympian, each finished the qualification round with 599 points. At the end of the final, Tamas, Uptagrafft and three-time Olympian Mike Anti (Winterville, N.C.) were all tied for first place with 702.4 points. Tamas and Anti both shot 10.7 in the first shoot-off, while Uptagrafft shot a 10.3. In the second shoot-off, Tamas and Anti both fired a 10.5, but in the third shoot-off, Tamas shot a 10.6 to Anti’s 10.0, to take the top spot going into the second day of competition. Anti is in second place and Uptagrafft is holding third place. Tamas, Anti and Uptagrafft are all members of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU).


Dominic Grazioli Wins World Cup USA Bronze Medal in Men’s Trap

The 2008 ISSF World Cup USA for Shotgun concluded today with Dominic Grazioli (San Antonio, Texas) claiming a bronze medal for the U.S. in Men’s Trap. Australia’s Michael Diamond captured the gold and Massimiliano Mola from Italy took the silver.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Diamond claimed the gold medal after shooting a perfect score of 25 targets in the final, finishing with a total score of 148 targets and matching his own world record.
