Szarenski and Hein: Golden Boys in Beijing COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (April 20, 2010) ![]() No, you are not seeing double. Pictured above is Daryl Szarenski, beaming as he stands with a gold medal around his neck – his third World Cup medal in two consecutive World Cups. Today Szarenski captured gold in Men’s 10M Air Pistol, effectively silencing the competition with 103.2 points in the final, for a total score of 686.2. Along with his victory in Free Pistol yesterday, this win marks the first time Szarenski — a long-time member of the US Army Marksmanship Unit — has ever brought home two medals from a world cup. Olympian Jason Turner finished twelfth with a match score of 580 points. The US added two more medals to its current tally of five with help from up-and-coming rifle shooter Joe Hein of the US Army Marksmanship Unit. The top-three competitors had point totals of 598 coming into the final round, but Hein stayed steady and shot a final score of 104.2, earning a total score of 702.2 for gold. Conquering another milestone for USA Shooting, Hein captured his first gold medal at a world cup. Only one point behind him was Eric Uptagrafft — also from the US Army Marksmanship Unit — with a total score of 701.9 points and a bronze medal. US shooters are on course to best last year’s medal haul in a combined World Cup, achieved in Munich, Germany, last May when they won six medals. With Men’s Skeet, Men’s Double Trap, Rapid Fire Pistol, Men’s and Women’s 50m 3-Position Rifle, and Women’s Trap yet to come, we are in good position to bring home even more bling from Beijing. © 2010 ISSF | Photo by Marco Dalla Dea ELEY is a Proud Sponsor of the USA Shooting Rifle and Pistol Teams: ELEY Limited, manufacturer of the world’s most consistently accurate rimfire ammunition, has been the Official Sponsor and Official Supplier of .22 rimfire ammunition of the USA Shooting rifle and pistol teams since 2000.
