Emmons Shines in Belgrade

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (June 30, 2010)

Europe certainly agrees with Matt Emmons–Belgrade specifically, where Emmons knocked out an outstanding 1278.4 total points for a gold medal in Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Position at the ISSF World Cup Belgrade. Though the wind was apparent as the match progressed, Emmons entered the final with a rare five point lead. He jumped in front and never looked back, finishing well above second place. “Things have just been going really well. I found some good ammo for my gun which has helped. And my prone and kneeling positions are working really well, which actually saved me in the first two World Cups I shot this year,” said Emmons during an International Shooting Sport Federation TV interview. Moreover, National Rifle Coach Dave Johnson commented, "Matt celebrated his wedding anniversary with his 3rd 3 position gold medal of the season. He worked hard and smart all day long in difficult wind conditions. This is a great step in his final preparations for the World Championships".

Emmons is now 3 for 3 in World Cup appearances, and not just medals, but GOLD medals. He topped the podium in Men’s Rifle 3 Position in Sydney, USA, and now Belgrade. Emmons is well on his way to securing a spot in the 2012 Games. The world will be watching as Emmons takes the stage in August at the World Shooting Championships in Munich, Germany. Let’s not forget that he’s also shooting in Men’s 50m Prone tomorrow, an event in which he earned a bronze medal at World Cup USA.

Yesterday, SFC Daryl Szarenski finished fourth in Men’s 10m Air Pistol, just 1.3 points shy of the bronze medalist. SFC Szarenski, another talented USA Shooting Team athlete to watch in Munich, finished with 683.5 total points. His teammate, Brian Beaman also qualified for the finals with 583 match points and shot a strong 99.8 point final. Also competing in a final was USA’s Jamie Beyerle, who finished fifth in Women’s 10m Air Rifle.
