Personal

Sandra and her husband Eric understand how to support each other in this sport even more than most married couples since they are both world class shooters.  They were the only U.S. married couple to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games.  Eric is a two-time Olympian in the 50m Rifle Prone event, and currently serving in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.  Sandra had never fired any firearm until having to qualify on the M16 rifle in Army basic training.  Following her initial training, she faced forest fires, earthquakes, and the riots as a member of the California Army National Guard ('89-'92).  She then was recruited to active service as a shooter/small arms instructor at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit ('92-'95).  She left active service to complete a Bachelor of Science degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude, in 1998, also being awarded All American in air pistol and free pistol.  Joined the Navy Reserves (‘01-‘14) when she and Eric moved to Colorado, serving as an Information Systems Technician, IT1 (SCWS).  She deployed to Afghanistan with the Seabees (‘10-‘11) and has survived Eric’s two deployments as well.  Worked as Systems QA and Technical Support Department Manager, doing everything from project management to shipping, helpdesk, system design and implementation, while managing a software testing and technical support team for a small startup company that specialized in data collection, data mining, and traceability software solutions for the agricultural industry.  Due to a major drawdown in the Navy, she made the switch back to the Army Reserves, currently serving with the 98th Training Division.  In addition to training for the Olympic Games, Sandra is working to complete a master’s degree in Network and Communications Management with a concentration in Information Security by this summer.
