Personal

Mary picked up rifle shooting in high school, training most days in her family’s garage. Once referred to as the “rebel child” of shooting, she quit her high school team and learned to teach herself via YouTube videos and online resources. Shortly after, University of Kentucky recruited Mary for rifle shooting. She’s earned several awards and titles in her two years at UK, including Rookie Shooter of the Year as a freshman, and Athlete of the Year as a sophomore.

In 2021, Mary won gold at NCAA Championships in 10m Air Rifle and 50m Smallbore. She’s the first UK athlete to sweep gold in both events. Besides leading her team to an NCAA championship, she was also named the Most Outstanding Performer. Less than a week later, Mary competed at ISSF World Cup New Delhi where she won gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Mary strives to be the best there is, and her goal is to coach the next best there ever is. Still technically a junior athlete by USA Shooting standards, the Tokyo Games will be Mary’s first Olympic appearance.
