Supporting the USA Shooting Team’s Quest for World & Olympic Glory

In partnership with the Missouri Youth Sport Shooting Alliance (MYSSA), the USA Shooting Team is taking its National Sporting Clay Cup fundraising concept national on October 20, 2017. The Show Me State will get its chance to do just that in celebration of America’s proud shooting heritage, the preservation of USA Shooting’s tradition of excellence and the enrichment of youth shooting opportunities in Missouri.

With USA Shooting’s 2020 vision, USA Shooting is establishing a Show Me State fundraiser using the very popular shotgun discipline of sporting clays as the draw to lure shooting sport enthusiasts to support the USA Shooting Team and benefit MYSSA ahead of the 2018 World Championships and the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Event History

The National Sporting Clays Cup concept originally began in the Olympic year of 2012. The Shoot for the Stars fundraiser helped provide more than $100,000 to USA Shooting before London. The funds raised helped pay for an important team training camp in Copenhagen, Denmark, just prior to the start of the Games. The event helped boost team morale and focus as the team went on to earn four medals in London, including three gold.

As the only non-government supported Olympic shooting team in the world, USA Shooting relies heavily on donors and sponsors to help maintain a history of success that includes 110 Olympic medals.

USA Shooting raised over $250,000 during their inaugural National Sporting Clay Cup in 2014 that took place at the American Shooting Center in Houston, TX. It was held again two years later and helped bring in an additional $100,000.

“It takes a lot of energy to jump into something like this and make it successful,” said event organizer, Butch Eller. “But when you look at beneficiaries, the athletes of USA Shooting, you know you’re doing it for all the right reasons. Success during our first event hinged on creating an event that was meaningful and enjoyable for those with an appreciation for the USA Shooting Team.”

Plenty of competition and interaction with Olympians and USA Shooting Team members accompanies the event that includes a private benefactor dinner and Saturday’s main event. The addition of a combined youth shooting and coaches clinic will provide tremendous growth opportunity for Show Me State shooting sport athletes and trainers.
