USA Shooting Shotgun Athletes Compete in Miami Cup

Olympians, National Team members, and Junior National Team athletes meat the Miami International Skeet Shooting Club to compete in the Miami Cup. The two-day competition consisted of day one, 75 targets plus a doubles event and day two, 50 targets plus finals. For most athletes this is their first competition of 2021.  

Day one consisted of three rounds (75 targets) with National Team member Colt McBee leading the pack and putting up a perfect day one total of 75. Olympic Team member Austen Smith and 2016 Olympian Morgan Craft followed close behind with a total of 74. Olympic Team member Phillip JungmanNational Team member Hayden Stewart, and Remington McBee each finished day one with a total of 73National Junior Team member Ben Keller hung in the top 10 with a score of 72, the only junior to break the top 10. His day one score tied Olympic Team alternates Sam Simonton and Nic Moschetti

Day two brought two rounds (50 targets) and a final shoot-off to determine 2021 Miami Cup Winners in Open Men, Open Women, Junior Men and Junior Women Categories 

2020 Olympic Team Member Amber English, Olympic Alternates Nic Moschetti and Sam Simonton, and National Junior Team Member Jonathan Savage finished day two with a 49/50 total score.  

2020 Olympic Team Member Austen Smith finished first in the finals for the Open Women categoryMorgan Craft, 2015 World Champion and 2016 Olympic Finalist, placed second and rounding out the Open Women category was 2020 Olympic Alternate Sam Simonton. Craft recently finished physician assistant school and Simonton is a current student at UCCS in Colorado Springs. The top three women in the above-mentioned Open Women category had the highest combined weekend score of 121/125 

Maybe the most exciting surprise of the Miami Cup was National Junior Team member Ben Keller who opted to compete in the Open Men’s final. Ben competed and WON gold amidst Olympic Team and National Team Members. Olympic Alternate Nic Moschetti who also had the highest combined weekend score of 121/125 finished second in Open Men finals, and Hayden Stewart in third.  

Junior Women’s winner was Fayth Alicia LayneMolly DiMaggio in second place, and Lia Nelson in third. Junior Men’s winner was Jonathan SavageAlex Ahlin in second place, and Chris Freeman in third.
