June 2020 Leadership Letter

Dear USA Shooting community,

Thank you for your positive feedback on our first edition of our Member Newsletter, our goal is to bring our community together as one.

While none of us are living our typical lifestyles this year, but we are happy that we’re moving closer towards our traditional activities and events. On June 1st we released our Return to Play and Events update, outlining which events will take place in July and August.

During the month of June, we also welcomed a new member to our Board of Directors and honored one of our coaching legends. After supporting the sport of Shooting through various roles, Jim Mitchell was elected to the USA Shooting Board of Directors. Jim owns and operates the Oak Tree Gun Club (Los Angeles, CA), but is proudest of helping develop the next generation of Champions. He has supported Kim Rhodes’ Olympic dream since she was 14 years old, even built her a training facility!

We closed the month of June by inducting Coach Lloyd Woodhouse into the USA Shooting Hall of Fame. Coach Woodhouse became the 32nd member of the Hall of Fame in a unanimous vote. Lloyd coached the Shotgun National Team in Colorado Springs for 23 years, guided athletes to over 428 medals, while leading six Olympic teams. Please read this month’s member profile, where you will hear from Coach Woodhouse’s athletes on the impact he made on them and the sport.

As we approach one year until the start of the shooting competition at the Tokyo Summer Olympics, we highlight National Team members, James Hall and Madelynn Bernau.
